Headworks offers aeration diffusers in multiple formats: tube and engineered diffusers. Each type of diffuser is used in specific applications depending on the process stage (secondary/tertiary), the type of process (CAS, MBBR & IFAS), and the process requirements (BOD removal, nitrification, TN removal with anammox, etc.).
Headworks Coarse/Medium bubble diffusers are designed to last for 30 years or longer in MBBR/IFAS tanks without a need to stop the process for maintenance. Our Coarse/Medium diffusers are made of 316-L Stainless Steel for long-term corrosion resistance. They may be supplied with deflector plates at the bottom to prevent clogging from debris or may be completely open so that solids can move in and out without clogging the diffusers. The diffusers are typically 600 mm long (nominal), and each of the diffusers has a wide range of airflow capacities from 7 Nm3/h to 80 Nm3/h without any differences in head losses. They are durable to withstand the weight of the media in the tank and they don’t have any drop in performance over the entire lifetime.
The advantages of using Coarse/Medium bubble diffusers in MBBR/IFAS include no maintenance requirements, long retention times for the bubbles due to the presence of media, high efficiencies achieved when the bubbles are broken into fine bubbles after impacts with media, and no additional air required for mixing the media.
